UTC students dig deep at Royal Navy Junior Leaders Field Gun Competition

Nine UTCs competed in the Royal Navy’s prestigious, invite only, Junior Leaders Field Gun (JLFG) Competition on 7 July 2017 at HMS Collingwood in Fareham. The competition is designed to inspire the scientists, engineers and technicians of the future, helping to build essential skills for the world of work, including team work, self-reliance, resilience and communication. Sir Charles Kao UTC celebrated International Women in Engineering Day on Friday 23 June, with a day of practical activities to encourage more women to take up engineering careers. The UK education system is failing to prepare young people for 21st century jobs, according to a radical new report, Our plan for 14-19 Education; Coherent, Unified, Holistic, published by the Edge Foundation on 6 July 2017. The focus on academic qualifications and exam grades is failing to equip young people with the skills employers are crying out for and the economy needs, says the independent charity. As the end of the school year draws closer, students and staff at the Greater Peterborough UTC celebrated their first year which was full of achievements, milestones and highs at their celebration event ‘Full STEM Ahead’. Ofsted report positive changes at UTC Plymouth

A recent monitoring inspection of UTC Plymouth by Ofsted has been extremely positive. The inspection identified the significant improvements made since the disappointing inspection in 2016. The report states leaders and managers at the UTC are taking effective action towards the removal of special measures. The Chair of Governors, Nick Buckland OBE, has been instrumental in supporting and driving UTC Plymouth to this outcome. UTC Reading student wins place at World MOS PowerPoint Championship in California

A student from UTC Reading is heading to Disneyland California as the UK and Ireland champion for MOS PowerPoint. Jonathan Foot, Year 12 UTC Reading student, was invited to take part in the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Four Nations Championship on Tuesday 13 June, representing England in PowerPoint. Jonathan was chosen based on having achieved one of the highest MOS exam results in England.
