Berkeley Green UTC has appointed Rhian Priest as its principal designate. Rhian already has a wealth of experience in managing a successful UTC as she is also principal of Bristol Technology and Engineering Academy (BTEA). She will put her immense expertise to good use managing both UTCs. Rhian joined the BTEA in 2013 as its founding principal. Lord Baker, founder of the UTC programme and Chairman for the Edge Foundation, explains in his latest paper 14-19 Education: A new Baccalaureate, how a new broader curriculum of academic and creative subjects will help students reach their full potential and lead to greater employment opportunities. Medway UTC students inspired by garden city visit

Medway UTC students visited the construction of new homes in Ebbsfleet Garden City, Kent, Britain’s first garden city for 100 years, to learn about construction management. The visit forms part of a module in the BTEC in the Built Environment and they were invited by Redrow Homes, a Flintshire based residential developer, who are constructing 950 homes on the Ebbsfleet Green site. On 19th May 2014 Sir Charles Kao UTC alongside Harlow College welcomed the Prime Minister to the Harlow campus. Mr Cameron took a tour of the UTC and met Harlow College apprentices. The Principal of Sir Charles Kao UTC, Michael McKeaveney, was accompanied by the UTC’s employer sponsors when welcoming the Prime Minister and Robert Halfon MP onto the SCK UTC building site to discuss their innovative curriculum and specialisms.
