Home builder Shanly Homes launched a photography competition for students at The Watford UTC to uncover new talent and commission unique pieces for Elder Place property development in Bushey. Inspired by the development’s leafy surroundings, students were given a brief of ‘flowers in bloom’ and three weeks to submit images that captured Spring. Two winners were selected: Martyna Przekop from year 13 and Aliysha Shahzad from year 10. Students at UTC Swindon have been putting their civil engineering skills to the test with a bridge-building project set by a national construction firm. The Year 10 students worked in teams, supported by staff from HOCHTIEF (UK) Construction, to build a bridge which could support as much weight as possible. Leading scientist Professor Lord Winston officially opened Sheffield’s second University Technical College on 23 May. During the visit Lord Winston toured the new facilities at Olympic Legacy Park, saw students demonstrating technical tasks, took part in a student-led question and answer session and unveiled a commemorative plaque.
