Kier Construction Director visits SGS Berkeley Green UTC campus

SGS Berkeley Green UTC, which opens in September 2017, was visited by Kier Construction Director, Mark Pausey on Tuesday 15 August who donated a defibulator to the campus and toured the new facilities with SGS Group Chief Executive, Kevin Hamblin. Kier began construction of the new UTC in 2016 including the refurbishment of the UTC’s engineering hall which will provide new workshops, project spaces and offices that will cater for the UTC’s specialisms in digital technology, cyber security and advanced engineering. UTC Sheffield given green light to lower student recruitment age

UTC Sheffield has been given the go ahead to recruit younger students from the age of 13 next year. Students currently join the UTC at the age of 14 in Year 10 or at the age of 16 in Year 12. They complete technical as well as academic qualifications including GCSEs and A Levels. Now the UTC will be able to accept applications from pupils aged 13 who will be able to join the first Year 9 cohort from September 2018. Gold medal for Watford UTC student at 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games

The Watford UTC student Tom Lish secured the first gold medal in the Commonwealth Youth Games held last month in The Bahamas. Part of a 72 strong team from the UK, Tom had four Judo fights taking the Gold, with Silver going to Australia and Bronze to Scotland. The Watford UTC’s year 12 student Tom Lish, joins a team of 72 young athletes from 19-23 July, to represent England at the Commonwealth Youth Games in The Bahamas. Tom will compete in Judo in the multi-sport competition, the first time this sport has been included in the games. Hitachi unveil brand new engineering hall at UTC South Durham

UTC South Durham celebrated its first academic year with the official opening of the Hitachi Rail engineering hall and the Gestamp robot cell. 140 students have studied at the college in the first year with an additional 200 due to start in September. The UTC offers a balance between theoretical and practical education for 14-19 year olds interested in science, technology, engineering and maths.
