UTC Reading student wins place at World MOS PowerPoint Championship in California

UTC Reading MOS Champion

A student from UTC Reading is heading to Disneyland California as the UK and Ireland champion for MOS PowerPoint.

Jonathan Foot, Year 12 UTC Reading student, was invited to take part in the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Four Nations Championship on Tuesday 13 June, representing England in PowerPoint. Jonathan was chosen based on having achieved one of the highest MOS exam results in England.

The Four Nations Championship took place in Microsoft Headquarters in Reading, where Jonathan’s PowerPoint skills were put to the test with tasks including importing videos and images, creating detailed animation sequences and custom themes. After completing all the required tasks, Jonathan was announced as the UK and Ireland champion for MOS PowerPoint.

Following his success, Jonathan will fly to Disneyland California on 29 July to participate in the World Championship.

Jonathan said:

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience at Microsoft and it was a very interesting day. I’ve managed to put my skills to the test and prove my ability in PowerPoint to future employers.

I am grateful to UTC Reading for providing this opportunity. They provide free MOS exams for all students, which is what enabled me to earn my MOS and MTA certifications that gave me my place in the competition.

I joined UTC Reading because they seemed to be the best option for preparing me for life after education. I am now coming to the end of my first year at the school and I am very glad I decided to join – it was definitely the right choice for me.

Andrew Griggs, Country Manager (UK) at Prodigy Learning, commented:

Jonathan’s achievement in securing a place at the World MOS Championships is evidence of the commitment that UTC Reading places on the skills needed by industry in the work place.

The competition this year was of a very high standard and Jonathan beat an impressive field of 40,000 competitors from across the UK & Ireland! I wish him the best of luck representing the UK at the World Finals in Disneyland, California in August.

Joanne Harper, UTC Reading Executive Principal, said:

We were absolutely delighted to see Jonathan succeed at the Four Nations Championship. We are proud at UTC Reading that we are able to offer our students the chance to work towards valuable professional qualifications alongside their academic studies, and it is fantastic to see students like Jonathan take advantage of this opportunity. We wish him the best of luck in the World Championship and look forward to hearing the final result.
