The Watford UTC’s year 12 student Tom Lish, joins a team of 72 young athletes from 19-23 July, to represent England at the Commonwealth Youth Games in The Bahamas. Tom will compete in Judo in the multi-sport competition, the first time this sport has been included in the games.

Tom is studying A Level Maths, Physics and Computing at the Watford UTC and is one of the college’s lead students. He has an agreed programme with the UTC that allows him to be part of various Team England/Team GB training events and competitions, giving him the flexibility to follow his dream alongside his studies.

Emma Loveland, Principal at the Watford UTC, said:

Tom is an all- round student and Judo plays a big part in his life. This is a fantastic opportunity for him and we’re very proud. We wish him every success.

The Watford UTC works with a range of major local employers, who will provide realistic hands-on projects for students and work with the UTC to ensure its curriculum, meets industry needs. With widely reported skills shortages in both the digital and hospitality industries, the UTC aims to train confident, highly competent individuals to fill the roles of the future.
