Snap happy UTC students commissioned for luxury home development

The Watford UTC photography competition winners

Home builder Shanly Homes launched a photography competition for students at The Watford UTC to uncover new talent and commission unique pieces for Elder Place property development in Bushey.

Inspired by the development’s leafy surroundings, students were given a brief of ‘flowers in bloom’ and three weeks to submit images that captured Spring. Two winners were selected: Martyna Przekop from year 13 and Aliysha Shahzad from year 10. Martyna captured a striking close-up of a single rose, while Aliysha produced a “well composed”, colourful flower arrangement.

As well as £125 worth of prize vouchers, Martyna and Aliysha will have the honour of having their work displayed in the communal areas within Shanly’s development alongside the runners up. One image from each entrant’s portfolio was selected to be framed and unveiled at Elder Place for residents to enjoy in the lobby and hallways.

Belinda Bean, Teacher of Photography at The Watford UTC, said:

The photography competition was a great opportunity for our students and created a real buzz. What a fantastic prize to be selected to showcase their work in the new development. We are always looking for opportunities at Watford UTC to carry out real world projects with our learners.

Paula Sardo, sales manager at Shanly Homes (North London), added:

We are always looking to enhance the interiors at our schemes with interesting and unique artwork, so for us this competition was an opportunity to uncover some new talent in photography.

Bushey is spoilt with green open spaces and woodlands so we set a simple brief of ‘flowers in bloom’, allowing the students to exercise their creativity. We’ve been really impressed with the quality of the submissions and hope the winner will enjoy the experience of creating a gallery of images for Elder Place.
