Improving Employability

At every stage, we work with our industry partners to create a school that improves employability. How?

  • Our partners have devised a list of key skills they look for in potential applicants.

We ensure these are taught and assessed explicitly so you know a student from a UTC is ready to work.

  • We are learning from you.

Our staff take part in additional training alongside our industry partners to introduce them to a whole new level of science, engineering and healthcare.

  • Our partners have told us what equipment they expect potential applicants to be able to use from day one.

This is available in our engineering and technology workshops, design suites, industry standard labs where possible, and time is made available at our partners’ to experience any equipment that we are not able to make available.

  • We have a culture that ensures the required skills and behaviours are built-in.

Communication, team working, problem solving, leadership, numeracy and analytical skills are thoroughly embedded to ensure they become second nature to students.

  • We recognise that science, engineering and healthcare changes rapidly.

Our curriculum teams work with our partners to ensure we are able to respond rapidly to introduce the future skills training that the industry requires.

  • Our students have time to take part in industry inspired projects.

They work directly with some of the best in the business to carry out research projects and workplace simulations that enhance their knowledge, practical skills and build their confidence.

  • All students have the opportunity to experience work in a partner’s setting.
