Dyson Institute for Engineering and Technology Insight Day for Year 13 UTC students

On 30th November 2022, twelve students from six UTCs had the opportunity to visit the Dyson Institute for Engineering and Technology in Malmesbury, Wiltshire.

The students from Abbeywood Community School (Engineering Academy), Aston University Engineering Academy, London Design and Engineering UTC, UTC Oxfordshire, UTC Portsmouth and UTC South Durham, were given a tour of the campus, including the high-end accommodation offered to students at the Institute, and were walked through the application process for the Institute.

The UTC visitors met current students, including a number of impressive alumni from UTCs, and heard first hand about their experiences at the Institute. The UTCs were inspired by hearing about some of the projects that Dyson students have had the opportunity to work on, such as developing headphones that not only filter out noise, but also filter the air you breathe.

Alex Blandford, a member of staff from UTC Portsmouth, commented: “It was such a fantastic day, really can’t thank you enough for putting it all together and for providing students (and myself) with the opportunity.” Catherine Purvis-Mawson, Deputy Principal at UTC South Durham, said “The students and I really enjoyed the experience and it has certainly inspired both students and they have been sharing their story!”
