University Technical Colleges (UTCs) continue
to receive press coverage across national, education and
regional press.
Featured in the cover story of the Times Educational
Supplement [1], Nick Morrison explores the model
of University Technical Colleges (UTCs). The headline
reads, "UTCs could raise the status of vocational education
while absolving schools of the requirement to cater for
'unaccademic' children. But is it right to allow 14 year olds to
make life-changing devision about where their future lies? JCB
Academy is included with comments made by principal Jim Wade.
Students from the JCB Academy were celebrated at an awards
ceremony where students were awarded trophies for their
enterprising work, commitment, and practical skills. Kathie McInnes
reported for the The
Sentinel [2].
The Daily
Mail's [3], James Chapman reported, "There
were 37 applications to set up a University Technical College,
which are sponsored by universities and local employers. New
Schools Network director Rachel Wolf said they had been 'inundated'
with applications to establish new schools."
