Rebekah is a Year 11 student at UTC Reading studying GCSEs in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, German and Geography.

Rebekah has already achieved national recognition when during her first year at the UTC she became the youngest student in the UK to achieve Autodesk Certified User AutoCAD certification. She transferred from an independent school to UTC Reading to help her achieve her ambition to become an engineer:

I’ve always been interested in the way things work and pursuing a career as an engineer is what I want to do when I leave education.

At UTC Reading she has been able to combine studying for her GCSEs with a BTEC First Extended Certificate in Engineering as well as specialist professional Microsoft Office qualifications. This latter qualification she achieved as one of a group of ten students from UTC Reading who were the first in the UK to gain such an award. She found this combination of qualifications a further attraction to joining the UTC:

I’m hoping being able to study for a combination of academic and technical qualifications will give me the edge when I apply for a job.

While her long term goal is to be a transport, space or nuclear engineer, Rebekah is not fazed by the possibility of working in what are considered male dominated industries. She is much more focused on a career she enjoys and would like to go to University at either Oxford or Cambridge to achieve that ambition.
