Does your child dream of becoming an engineer, scientist, or computer specialist? A University Technical College is the perfect start to their career.
Studying at a UTC provides your child with the opportunity to gain an academic, technical and practical education and prepares them for whatever they choose to do next - higher-level apprenticeship, going to university or getting a job.
Give your 14 year old their first career break
Each year, there are up to 40,000 jobs available that require skills in science, technology, engineering and maths. The UTCs build your child’s expertise in these subject areas.
UTC students work closely with employers on real-life technical projects. These build students’ communication and team working skills - essential for the workplace.
Employers mentor students and provide opportunities for work experience.
Contact with local universities provides specialist teaching and expertise.
A new experience of education
UTCs are a new type of school that offer industry recognised technical qualifications as well as traditional GCSEs and A Levels.
UTCs are state funded, Ofsted inspected, and employ qualified teachers.
Students can enjoy a range of extracurricular activities linked to their technical specialisms, or in other areas such as sport, art or drama.
Days typically start at 8.30am and end at 5pm including time for homework, leaving evenings clear for other activities.
UTCs look for students who are really keen to work hard and are determined to succeed.
What to do next
UTCs have good transport links so your son or daughter may be able to reach one even if it is in another local authority.
